Le Twenty One dispose d&rsquo;un garde-boue arri\u00e8re \u00e9tendu qui enveloppe presque compl\u00e8tement la roue arri\u00e8re ce qui donne \u00e0 la moto une ligne tr\u00e8s originale et, pour certains, discutable.\u00a0L&rsquo;esth\u00e9tique de la moto est fortement soutenue par Turner, qui apr\u00e8s avoir s\u00e9v\u00e8rement critiqu\u00e9 ce type de design dit \u00ab\u00a0bathtub\u00a0\u00bb, se convertit soudainement \u00e0 cette solution en la d\u00e9finissant comme innovante et rationnelle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.triumphadonf.com\/v3\/index.php\/triumph-twenty-one-350-3ta\/attachment\/triumph_350_twenty-one_3ta_11\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11805\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-11805 lazyload\" title=\"triumph_350_twenty-one_3TA_11\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.triumphadonf.com\/v3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/triumph_350_twenty-one_3TA_11-645x315.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"645\" height=\"315\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 645px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 645\/315;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ce curieux bicylindre de 350 cc est appel\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Twenty One\u00a0\u00bb comme un hommage au vingt et uni\u00e8me anniversaire de la Triumph Engineering Co Ltd f\u00eat\u00e9 cette ann\u00e9e-l\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p>Le communiqu\u00e9 de presse pour la pr\u00e9sentation de cette Twenty One met l&rsquo;accent sur \u200b\u200bl&rsquo;importance du nouveau mod\u00e8le qui vient combler une lacune en terme de cylindr\u00e9e dans la gamme Triumph de 1957 dans laquelle vous passiez directement du Tiger Cub 200 aux mod\u00e8les \u00e0 500 et 650 cc.\u00a0Le moteur dit \u00ab\u00a03CT\u00a0\u00bb entre officiellement en production en f\u00e9vrier 1958 et a atteint les concessionnaires dans le Royaume-Uni en avril de la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, arriv\u00e9e sanctionn\u00e9e par un succ\u00e8s mitig\u00e9.\u00a0Co\u00fbts, y compris les taxes, 217 livres.<\/p>\n<p>Mais ce n&rsquo;est pas le march\u00e9 int\u00e9rieur qui est la cible principale de cette Triumph 3TA.\u00a0Les intentions de Turner sont d&rsquo;infiltrer le march\u00e9 am\u00e9ricain gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ce mod\u00e8le accessible, afin de vendre par la suite les mod\u00e8les haut de gamme dans cet eldorado.<\/p>\n<h2>La Triumph 3TA c\u00f4t\u00e9 technique<\/h2>\n<p>Le Twin tout nouveau avec la bo\u00eete de vitesses incorpor\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;unit\u00e9 avec la base (mais avec une lubrification ind\u00e9pendante du moteur) d\u00e9finit la ligne de d\u00e9marcation entre les mod\u00e8les de pr\u00e9-unit (moteurs avec bo\u00eete de vitesses s\u00e9par\u00e9e) et toutes les unit\u00e9 de production futures.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11811 lazyload\" title=\"1957-3ta-engine\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.triumphadonf.com\/v3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/1957-3ta-engine.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"637\" height=\"673\" data-srcset=\"http:\/\/triumphadonf.com\/v3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/1957-3ta-engine.jpeg 637w, http:\/\/triumphadonf.com\/v3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/1957-3ta-engine-113x120.jpeg 113w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 637px) 100vw, 637px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 637px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 637\/673;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ce nouveau moteur Twin (al\u00e9sage et course 58,25 x 65,5 mm, 349 cc), tout en offrant des solutions techniques innovantes \u00e0 mettre au cr\u00e9dit des ing\u00e9nieurs Triumph, d\u00e9veloppe moins de 20 chevaux.\u00a0Avec un poids de 340 lb (154 kg), la vitesse maximale de ce mod\u00e8le \u00e9tait d&rsquo;environ 130 kilom\u00e8tres par heure.\u00a0Toutefois, il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;un moteur bien n\u00e9, \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 que sa carri\u00e8re ne prendra fin que dans les ann\u00e9es soixante-dix afin de supporter des augmentations n\u00e9cessaires de cylindr\u00e9e. Il a aussi servi de base de d\u00e9veloppement \u00e0 des moteur de cylindr\u00e9e sup\u00e9rieure comme le 500cc apparu en 1959.<\/p>\n<p>Le nouveau garde-boue arri\u00e8re est compos\u00e9 de deux panneaux joints centralement \u00e0 l&rsquo;avant et en arri\u00e8re de la roue.\u00a0Le garde-boue avant est tr\u00e8s vaste pour \u00e9quilibrer la ligne de la moto ensemble et accro\u00eetre la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 en cas de mauvais temps.\u00a0Cette solution esth\u00e9tique controvers\u00e9e\u00a0sera le th\u00e8me dominant de toutes les discussions concernant le look des motos \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque. Le cadre offre un berceau unique avec bras oscillant arri\u00e8re et deux amortisseurs Girling r\u00e9glables en pr\u00e9contrainte.\u00a0Les deux roues sont de 17 pouces avec frein \u00e0 tambour de 7 pouces.<\/p>\n<h2>La Triumph 3TA fait carri\u00e8re aux States<\/h2>\n<p>Les deux filiales am\u00e9ricaines (TriCor et JoMo), avec l&rsquo;accord de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 m\u00e8re se d\u00e9cident \u00e0 importer quelques mod\u00e8les pour tester les r\u00e9actions du march\u00e9 am\u00e9ricain face \u00e0 ces nouvelles motos. C&rsquo;est avec confiance que le cargo emportant la premi\u00e8re cargaison de Triumph 3TA accoste aux USA en 1958.\u00a0Lors de l&rsquo;ouverture des bo\u00eetes, c&rsquo;est une \u00e9norme d\u00e9convenue puisque ce lot tout frais de Twenty One font h\u00e9riss\u00e9 le poil des concessionnaires am\u00e9ricain. Il y a erreur de casting&#8230; L&rsquo;\u00e9norme garde-boue arri\u00e8re, vant\u00e9 pour ses qualit\u00e9s protectrices sous la pluie en Angleterre, s&rsquo;av\u00e8re r\u00e9dhibitoire sur le march\u00e9 US.<\/p>\n<p>En Am\u00e9rique, dans l&rsquo;imaginaire collectif la Triumph est la moto utilis\u00e9e par Marlon Brando dans le film \u00ab\u00a0The Wild One\u00a0\u00bb ou \u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;Equip\u00e9e Sauvage\u00a0\u00bb en fran\u00e7ais. On est donc \u00e0 des kilom\u00e8tres de cette petite moto aux allures de gros scooters. La Twenty One sera imm\u00e9diatement surnomm\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0Baignoire\u00a0\u00bb, ou \u00ab\u00a0bathtub\u00a0\u00bb en VO.
